What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterised by widespread pain, fatigue, and heightened sensitivity to stimuli. It’s a disorder of pain regulation with pain system hypersensitivity (sometimes called central sensitisation), often identified by:
-
Pain lasting more than three months
-
Pain affecting four of five specified body areas
-
Symptoms like fatigue, cognitive difficulties, and poor sleep
Other common symptoms include depression, anxiety, migraines, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and urinary frequency. Though fibromyalgia is not life-threatening, it can significantly impair quality of life.
At Evolving Pain, we understand how challenging it can be to navigate fibromyalgia’s complex symptoms. Our physiotherapists and occupational therapists work with you to address your unique needs, match your capacity and create a tailored plan for your lifestyle.
